Who We Help

Most of the profit of this little business goes to help Single Moms in Africa by helping them start a small business selling things in their market, or helping them buy some chickens or goats that they can raise.

Let's give you some stories.  I met Alice (not her name) and her husband Jim (not his name)  about 2 years ago.  She is quite a bit younger than her husband.  They have a piece of land and a house that he built, but with unemployment in Uganda at about 60% he was having trouble feeding his family.  Then Alice got pregnant with twins and they already had 4 children.

When the twins were due she needed a Cesarean birth and they could not pay.  We paid for the delivery and I believe it was a whole $50.I Since then we have helped with food and school fees for the older children.

But then JIm decided that he couldn't look after her, wanted more intimacy without children, and he moved on because family planning there is not acceptable.

This leaves Alice with 6 children to raise alone and she needs help.  If you have read this and don't want a piano - we would be glad to forward whatever you give to help these people.

This is Suzy (not her name) about 3 years ago.  She has been married twice.  The first marriage broke down because they were from different tribes and the parents wouldn't even go to the wedding.  She had a child from this marriage.

The second marriage broke down after she had used most of her money to open a store that was a disaster because of her husband.  After the birth of their child, she went to visit her husband at the store and found him drunk - babbling about his gambling debts - and 2/3 of the goods were gone.  She picked up her children the next day and left.

With what little she had left she opened another tiny store and with baby in arms served customers and made about $1.50 per day.  I suggested after I had seen the location that it could make quite a bit more if she sold things like Tim Horton's.  After buying her some equipment for less than $50 she transformed the business from $1.50 a day to about $7.00 a day.  I was impressed with her determination.  Then she told me that the day we had met she was so desperate she was going to commit suicide.

Then one evening she went to get medicine for the older child and was raped.  In Kenya you don't get an abortion if you're raped because you would be put in jail.  So she carried the child and loves her very much to this day.  But that means she has 3 children to look after.  What would you do as a single mom with 3 children.   Right now she has obtained some free land and planted about an acre and a half of potatoes with money that we sent to help her.

Do you want to help and don't want a piano?  We would be glad to funnel any amount you're willing to send to single moms like Suzy.
